Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) refers to the provision of access to a software program, where the supplier retains ownership of and responsibility for the management and maintenance of the software program and charges an annual license fee for access to the software program plus (commonly) the hosting of it in the cloud. Because SaaS is paid for annually and remains the responsibility of the supplier, SaaS provides lower barriers of cost and reduced risk for potential customers.
